Introducing the Super NTMX

The World's First Twin ATC
Multitasking B-Axis Lathe

The New NTMX is the latest technology from Nakamura-Tome in ATC, 5-Axis machining with a simple approach.

The use of a B-axis ATC machine has been very popular in North American manufacturing. The reduction in lot sizes has created increased demand for this type of machining platform. However, operators and set up personnel are generally uncomfortable with operating these machines, which can be difficult and complex to run. The New NTMX twin spindle platform addresses these key concerns by providing these superb advantages.

  • Easy access and set up approach via two front ATC locations.
  • Great process versatility.
  • Faster set ups and tool changing.
  • Ability to change inserts without stopping the machine.
  • Increased profile milling accuracy (tool tip is close to center of rotation).

The Super Simple Solution

A design that incorporates 2-ATC magazines, one for the left spindle and one for the right.

  • Tools are separated from a central magazine and placed on the spindle side or near the spindle where they will be used.
  • Tools may be used from the left magazine on the right spindle or the right magazine on the left spindle.
  • This is useful when 24 tools are not enough for 1 side operations or if you want to use the same tool for similar operations on both spindles.
  • The process flexibility can be easily, fully optimized for your operation.

The NTMX also has 1 lower turret. This is a 12 station bolt-on turret with ½ indexing capability. Thus, up to 24 tools are possible. The lower turret does not have milling stations, so in keeping with the idea of simple operation, this lower turret is for turning, drilling, boring, grooving and threading, just like a single spindle lathe.

  • The turret may be used on either the left or right spindle.
  • Pinch turning is also possible with the upper spindle and the lower turret.

When very complex parts come into play, the New NTMX also has full 5-Axis capability using the Fanuc 31i-A5 control. This makes any complex contour shape very easy to machine. Nakamura has also incorporated a robust vertical column design, similar to a VMC. This allows for direct drive ball screw-driven performance for all axes, resulting in High Multi axis motion resolution.

When combined, these design features result in a very user friendly machining solution that accommodates most shop personnel (mascot excluded of course!), giving you flexibility to easily manage your production output of complex parts.
